Ellen Karis
Ellen Karis is delighting audiences around the country with her brand of sarcastic, observational humor rooted in her conflict of being raised as a traditional Greek-American woman in a non-traditional modern world. Ellen jokes about her family's disappointment in her not taking the expected life path, her relationships, working on Wall Street and the idiosyncrasies of the ever changing world we live in. She has become a featured act in comedy clubs and private events, performing nationwide and is a regular in New York City and Long Island. Ellen has also become popular in the Greek American community, being one of the very few Greek female stand-up comedians. She performs at Church functions and Greek fundraisers in the US and Canada and is part of the popular "Greek Gods of Comedy." Audiences and agents have described her as the "little dynamo" given her petite stature and acerbic tongue. Her riffing is always a surprise to those seeing her for the first time. Ellen has a unique ability to build a quick rapport with people, as she can often be found 'working' the audience as part of her show. The Greek audiences appreciate her unique way of adding humor to their culture that is usually known for drama, on and off stage. "Very, very funny. Ellen is full of life, she gets the crowd involved in her show. I have never seen Greeks laugh so hard" says the head of the Clearwater, Florida Greek Church. Ellen is also an accomplished actress having been in several independent films, radio shows and TV including The Sopranos. |
